University of Connecticut (UConn)
The University of Connecticut (UConn) has about 33,000 students and sits on over 4400 acres of land! UConn is a big school with five campus locations: Storrs, Avery Point, Hartford, Stamford, and Waterbury. The main campus is in Storrs on the eastern side of the state.
The University of Connecticut is rated one of the top 25 public universities in the nation and has one of the largest public research libraries in the state. The main campus in Storrs has a college town feel, and downtown Storrs is always lively and filled with businesses, shops, and restaurants.
UConn even has its very own dairy bar, selling ice cream and attracting more than 200,000 customers annually. Their mascot, “The Huskies,” cheers on their sports teams in the NCCA Division I league. There are a ton of activities on campus for students to enjoy, and UConn also provides free local transportation to the shorelines as well as Boston and Manhattan.
Charter Oak State College
Charter Oak State College is an online college that offers a variety of majors and certifications, with about 2,000 students. This online option allows students the flexibility to make their college schedule to meet the needs of work and family commitments.
Charter Oak State College also offers accelerated tracks for extra-motivated students and partners with other state colleges and universities to expand it’s degree options.
Eastern Connecticut State University (ECU)
Eastern Connecticut University (ECU) is in the town of Willimantic and has about 5,000 students enrolled and holds over 2,500 events annually. Willimantic has earned national recognition for its Boom Box Parade every July.
Students come from all over the country and from more than 19 foreign countries. It’s a large, diverse student body with on-campus housing that has over 13 residence halls. They are known as The Warriors and are an NCAA Division III school. If they are mindful to avoid rush hour, students at ECU have quick access to Boston in about 1.5 hours and New York City in about 3 hours.
Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU)
Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) resides in the western part of the coastal city ofNew Haven. SCSU has over 10,000 students and sits on over 170 acres, and almost a third of those students live on campus.
Southern Connecticut State University strives to be one of the most environmentally-friendly universities and promotes robust action for climate change. They also participate in Division II athletic programs for student-athletes and those who love to watch.
Western Connecticut State University (MCSU)
Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) is in the city of Danbury. Danbury is nicknamed “Hat City” due to being a large manufacturer of hats in the early 1900s. The WCSU campus is in the historic district with easy access to shops and restaurants.
Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) has about 6,000 students and may come from Connecticut and surrounding states. Their varsity teams participate in NCAA Division III sports, and Chuck the Colonial is their mascot.
Central Connecticut State University (CCSU)
Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) is in New Britain and has about 11,000 students enrolled. The campus lies on a walkable, safe 165-acres that has over ten residence halls housing more than 2,500 students a year.
Central Connecticut State University competes in Division I NCAA sports, and their nickname is The Blue Devils.
